Why Eat Raw Chocolate?

- Cacao [Theobroma Cacao] is the world's #1 antioxidant!

Cacao is highest known source of anti-oxidants by a factor of about 5.  Nearly 20 times the antioxidant levels of red wine and up to 30 times that of green tea. The antioxidant ORAC levels per 100 grams of broccoli is 890.  Blueberries are at 2,400... and dark chocolate is way up at 13,120.  Raw Cacao is increasingly being described as a superfood, and cacao literally means 'food of the gods'.

- A premier natural source of magnesium

Magnesium deficiency is common in todays industrialized nations, and some sources report that over 80% of Americans are chronically deficient in Magnesium.  Cacao is being 'rediscovered' as an excellent hormonal balancer, and as an excellent (and tasty) source of magnesium:)

- Good for the heart and brain

Some say that chocolate, and even more so raw cacao can 'open the heart chakra' and create a feeling of love.  Although subtle and tough to prove, maybe you've noticed this wonderful 'side effect' of chocolate!  We certainly find it to be the case.  We're not alone in finding that raw chocolate contributes to and enhances our physical, mental, and emotional well being.

- Mood stabilizer

Magnesium balances brain chemistry, and is associated with feeling 'happy'.  Ever notice that about chocolate? The Phenylethylamine (PEA) is found in chocolate.  PEA is an adrenal related chemical that is also created within the brain and released when we are in love.  Perhaps this is why the tried and true box of chocolates is the world's most given gift on Valentines Day.

A neurotransmitter called anadamide has been isolated in cacao.  Anandamide is also produced naturally in the brain, and is also known as "The Bliss Chemical".  No big news to chocolate lovers:)

- Raw Cacao, an Aphrodisiac?

Independant researchers worldwide are claiming that it is!  We see it as another one of those welcomed 'side effects' of raw chocolate.  Of course, um, this site is rated "G", so we can only suggest doing your own independant research on this subject... moving on then:)

- Delicious, nutritious, and fun!

Raw Cacao beans, while usually only consumed raw by the few and the brave, have what most would describe as a bitter taste at first.  If you like the taste of an espresso bean, however, you may really like them!  From our market research at farmers markets here in Canada, we find that the majority of chocolate lovers seem to get an initial suprise upon experiencing raw cacao.   Yet more and more today are finding it to be invigorating, mood enhancing, and the best chocolate they've ever tasted.  We would certainly agree!

A growing number of chocoholics are learning about alternative sweetners such as Agave Nectar, which tame the bitterness of the cacao bean.  Cold pressed cacao butter is the fat of the cacao bean, which is very creamy and rich.  The miracle happens when you combine the raw cacao bean, butter, and some agave together... and this is something we like to describe as an authentic, delicious, and we would feel confident to say, "healthy" chocolate!

The fun starts once you try raw chocolate for yourself!  Many major cities around the world are finding raw chocolate available locally. Seek some out, you'll be glad you did.  If you're so inclined, making raw chocolate is not as difficult as you may expect, and it's great fun to experiment making it on your own!  For us, the fun is to introduce you to our version of natures perfect food, which we call "Rawthentic Chocolate"!

and one of our favorites...

"There's more to life than chocolate, but not right now." - Author Unknown
